It was a wonderful birthday celebration with family and my husband. We kicked off the festivities at the movie theatre and Shrek Forever After. We stuck with just swigs because of dinner plans after the flick.
You betcha we know how to work those 3D shades. Next time we plan to personalize them ;)
Then feeling a wee bit adventerous we found our way to a new place that took over for Hogi Yogi in the Smith's parking lot in Orem. Thank goodness it did, because it is excellent.
Going in we had no idea what Shabu Shabu entailed, but the "hot pot" part of the name was immediately apparant. Each place setting gets its own pot. No Joke!
So you order what you would like--anything from kobe beef to crab legs. They click on the warmers under the table and your water starts to boil. They add some soy sauce, some seasame sauce, some minced garlic and things start to smell great, even though its just water cooking in that hot pot right in front of you. Then they bring out the meat and veggies.
If you are thinking "Wait just one second here, that food looks..." then you would be right. It comes out raw. You are in charge of cooking your own food just to your liking. They tell you how much each piece of meat or fish should take to cook and you can use your discression after that. So you shabu shabu away and use your chop sticks to swish your chicken, shrimp, beef in the boiling concoction. Then you eat it with your rice and the two sauces they provide. Yum!
Add whatever veggies you want, if you want more sauce, steal from your little brothers plate, and so on. It's super fun. And thats just the shabu--wait til you see the sushi ;)
Everything was delicious and though I did try to record the names of all the rolls we tried, it was lost. So alas, if you want to know the names of what we ate, you will just have to take us with you when you try it--and trust me, you should try it at least for date night. Kinda pricy, especially paying for the individual sushi rolls, but it was so fun. One roll was wrapped in cucumber instead of seaweed, several had strawberries, some had lime and jalapeno--all of it was delicious.
Then, like that wouldn't have been enough food, after your veggies in the pot have finished simmering you get to make a soup.
When you give this place a shot you pretty much go hungry because every single one of us had to take some home with us. All in all it was a glamerous, mouth watering, fun and festive birthday celebrated with utmost class and style ;) Thank you, thank you Mom, Dad, Little Brother, and Husband for making it memorable.
