Thanksgiving Day

We have done the traditional my family, your family trade offs with Thanksgiving for the last five years. This year we spent it with Spencer's family up at Daniel's Summit. It is a lovely lodge up the canyon just south of Heber and they serve Thanksgiving dinner so Spen's mom doesn't have to cook and Spen's dad doesn't have to pay for her cooking. Funny thing is that it is still cheaper for all of us to eat out at a pricey lodge on Thanksgiving than it is for LaLa to cook it. At least, that is what my FIL told us after he received the bill. If you know LaLa at all you know this to be a true statement. Though, I have to admit, I would love to have a home cooked Thanksgiving meal a la LaLa.

One thing you should also know, Spencer's side of the family is very large and still growing. So when we gather it can be a rowdy and imposing bunch. There are seventeen grandkids, and the adult to grandchild ratio is shrinking rapidly. You can imagine how difficult it can be to feed and keep track of them all, especially when dining buffet style. This is why a room was reserved this year, just for our family. Even then it was still difficult to contain us. As per the usual Daniel's Summit excursion, the food was fantastic and the company was better. We love when the whole family can get together, the entire rambunctious room full, and we loved every rowdy minute of it.

Here is Blake on the way up.

Here is one table post gluttony.

Here is Blake beside our table.

Here is our own private room.

Here are my nieces and nephews, at least, most of them.

Here we are, tripped up on tryptophan.

And here is Blake on the way home.

As you can see, Blake slept through his entire first Thanksgiving, never even waking up once. Ok, he woke up and struggled a little when we tried to take our family photo, but once he was back in the car seat he was out, thank you very much. We had such a great time. Then we got home and spent what was left of the food filled holiday in bed. Yes, even Blake continued to sleep after he had his Thanksgiving dinner.

This is what Thanksgiving is all about. What a plus to not have to cook or clean it up! You get to enjoy the best parts.
